A Long Time Ago, We Used to be Friends

mirandaI am going to go ahead and declare that March 13, 2013 was a pretty significant day in history.

Why, you may ask?

Well after six long and lonely years, the UPN/WB/CW cult classic, “Veronica Mars,” is finally going to make it to the big screen!

“Veronica Mars” is actually on my short list of favorite TV shows, ever! Seriously – it’s funny, witty, smart, and progressive and featured a strong female lead character.

It only lasted for three seasons (2004-2007) and was never a “most-watched” show even during its heyday, but the plan to revive VMars (as us marshmallows refer to the show) has been in the works for a long time. Thanks to the new-age Nancy Drew herself Kristen Bell, creator Rob Thomas and a handful of former (and soon-to-be-future) co-stars – the movie is finally coming to fruition with plans to be in theaters next year!

All it took was a video plea on Kickstarter and 11 hours later it had over 43,000 backers who helped raise $2.6 million, surpassing the goal and giving the movie the green light. Yep, her fans rallied – less than half an hour after Thomas first tweeted news of the campaign, someone pledged $10,000 (which won them a speaking role, playing a waiter/waitress with the line, “Your check, sir.”).   This marshmallow may be receiving a “limited edition Veronica Mars-the Movie t-shirt” in the mail in a few months…don’t judge!

While my $25 may not warrant a legit producer credit, I am proud to have supported the cause. Call me a bandwagon jumper-onner (may have just made that up), but come early 2014 I will be in line at the one indie movie theater playing the movie to see if Veronica and Logan, do in fact end up together. See you in Neptune!
