‘Tis the Season For Boozy Ice Cream

Forget third-generation recipes for kolaches or grandma’s signature Christmas fettuccine, the most coveted recipes in my family at holiday time are made of two primary ingredients – ice cream and booze.

It started the year my parents thought they had uncovered the hidden gem of dining experiences in a genuine supper club tucked away in the-middle-of-nowhere-Iowa. (That’s really saying something.) They dragged us there while in town for Christmas, sure its retro charm would blow our big-city minds.

Although the prime rib left much to be desired, there were lots of delicious frothy ice cream cocktails served by waitresses with poofy bangs doused in AquaNet. And so our love affair began.

Since it’s the season of giving, I figured I’d round up some ice cream cocktails that are perfect for the holidays and give you the opportunity to enjoy their splendor. Cheers!

Candy Cane:
1 ounce peppermint schnapps
1 ounce white creme de cacao
2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Grasshopper or Mint Patty:
1 ounce green creme de menthe
1 ounce white creme de cacao
2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Angel Wings:
1 ounce creme de menthe
1 ounce brandy
2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Santa’s Sleigh Cocktail:
2 cups store-bought eggnog, chilled
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
4 cinnamon sticks (for garnish)

Blend, garnish and serve.
