You roll over at 7 a.m. and you have two choices: get up, shower, and blow dry, or roll over, snooze for 20, and succumb to what will inevitably be a bad hair day.
Anyone who has hair that needs to be washed every day (I envy my girlfriends who can go three days without shampooing and still look awesome) understands this dilemma. If I want to leave my apartment looking like a semi-normal human being, a wash and dry is 100% necessary. However, even the best of us have those mornings where the extra minutes of sleep outweigh looking good.
Well girls, I have a solution to the problem I never thought I’d solve. It’s called the sock bun and for those who haven’t heard of it, let me tell you, it’s a godsend. This classic, sleek, look has been seen on Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and (when I first fell in love it) on January Jones in Mad Men. The best part is that it’s super easy so it requires minimal effort on those hectic mornings when you’re rushing to work.
All you need to do is cut the toes off the sock so it looks like a tube and then roll it up (like when you fold socks together). Then you slick your hair back (easy enough considering it’s probably greasy) and tie it in a ponytail. Slip the sock around the elastic like a ring, flip your whole pony tail over the top and spread the hair out around the sock so that all of it’s covered. Pin it so that it stays put and you’re done!
Oh and if the makeshift sock isn’t really up your alley, Sally’s Beauty Supply and other stores sell an easy little hairpiece that makes it even easier. Trust me ladies, it will make your mornings way less stressful on those days when that extra sleep is crucial, and leave you with a polished, pretty look.
