Admission: Religious fanatics freak me the fuck out. Personally, I haven’t been to church since I was thirteen, but I certainly don’t judge those who go on a regular basis. What I don’t understand, however, is the screaming, fainting, rolling on the ground, “curing,” crying, and more. So, when I came across National Geographic’s latest documentary, “Pint-Sized Preachers,” I practically died. Jaw dropped, I laughed so hard that I ended up crying at my desk.
The program follows three youth—my favorite, Kanon, 4 years old—as legit preachers in their communities. Seeing a 3-foot tall kid (nay, baby) jumping up and down at the pulpit, shouting “Speak in tongues, word of God,” is nothing short of ridiculous. What’s more are the grown adults seemingly so moved by these words. It’s without a doubt 100% insane. “I see nothing but Jesus in a little boy…I can’t compose myself when he’s up there,” admits one member of a Mississippi congregation.
GIVE ME A BREAK!
The special airs again tonight at 6pm—watch if you dare.
