Not So Funny Meow…

One of mm/c’s former interns, Sue, tackled Hello Kitty news with airlines and Hooters. I am now stepping into her shoes to feature yet another Hello Kitty blog because — let’s be honest — there can never be too many.

Unlike Sue, I am not a die-hard Hello Kitty fan. However, I admire the lengths this kitty cat goes to conquer the world with her red bows and pink accessories.

For this month’s triumph, Hello Kitty has clamped her perfectly manicured claws into Dubai with a beauty spa for all those “queens” and “princesses” out there. Designed by Tokyo artist Miyuki Okamura using every color variation of pink imaginable, this spa either looks like a fairy wonderland (for young girls) or a torture chamber (for all boys). The treatments include Kitty Glam facials, Kitty-cure massages, Hair-dooz, and Kitty Day Make up; in-between pampering, guests can enjoy tea and organic cupcakes at the Hello Kitty Café.

So look out world, because this is one pussy cat that is taking over our society one feeble colony at a time. The next industry she plans to attack is women’s underthings, with Hello Kitty lingerie. So all you men out there who thought Hello Kitty was just for kids, wait’ll she starts to invade the bedroom. Not so funny meow, is it?

Hello Kitty x Hooters

Image via Eater

When I was a little girl, I loved Hello Kitty. Hell, I still love Hello Kitty. She’s just so cute and cool — and I’m not the only one who thinks so, as evidenced by the hundreds of Hello Kitty collaborations between different brands and companies over the years. For example, Hello Kitty x MAC in 2009. Even three years ago, I remember all the hype and anticipation surrounding the release of the Hello Kitty line amongst ‘tweens, teens and adults. I didn’t even wear make up and I still blew $30 on a tube of Hello Kitty adorned lip stick I probably only ever used twice.

So while I can definitely understand the appeal of a Hello Kitty collaboration, one that I can honestly say I never saw coming was Hello Kitty x Hooters. Yes, you read that right. Who would’ve thunk? Only the Japanese, of course!

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Hooters Tokyo is offering free Hello Kitty commemorative pins  to the first 1,000 people in the door. But wait, there’s more!  To top it off, they’re also selling ice cream sundae parfaits, calling them “Volcanos of Love.” Because nothing puts you in the mood for romance like Hello Kitty, Hooters and ice cream sundaes?
