Diamonds Are a Nail’s Best Friend?

While athletes were recently breaking records in London, the reigning champ of nail polish also lost its title. That’s right, the top dog of the mani/pedi domain, Models Own, no longer holds the crown of “most expensive nail polish in the world” with its $130,000 Gold Rush Couture Shade…and it hasn’t just been taken, it’s been dominated. Luxury jeweler Azature, the self-declared “king of black diamonds,” is definitely living up to expectations with their newest product. If you’re wondering what could possibly top gold nail polish in a bottle encrusted with 1,118 diamonds, how about a version with 267 carats in the bottle itself!

Yup, this one-of-a-kind lacquer is the glitziest, most mind-blowing, and (I think it goes without saying) most extravagant nail polish on the planet! How much does a person have to pay to get their hands on this coveted Black Diamond glaze? No big deal, just your average $250,000 per bottle! I bet Marilyn Monroe didn’t see this one coming when she sang those famous words, still true today. But like Marilyn, I’d rather wear the diamonds around my neck, on my wrist, hanging from my ears, or on my finger…forget about on my nails!

In case you’re not looking to set yourself back a quarter of a million dollars, the company is offering a department store version of the diamond-infused lacquer for $25. But if you truly want to be fabulous dahhling, prepare to spend your life-savings! Me, I’ll be sticking with $12 manicures and good ole OPI.

Taking Porn Star Nails to a Whole New Level

How do you bounce back from a VERY public and damaging affair? Why, launch a beauty line, of course! Rather than fade quietly into obscurity—or at least back into the adult movie aisle—former Tiger Woods mistress (and current porn actrice) Joslyn James is gearing up to unveil the aptly titled Shameless, a line of 13 nail colors set to debut in 2012. With names like “Not Just a Porn Star,” “More than a Mistress” and “36DD,” these sound less like nail polish colors than bottled STDs.

Clearly this girl wasn’t content being a run-of-the-mill slut; now she’s a real fame whore to boot.

First, we learned that mermaid heroines were making a come back and now it seems those foxy fishtail femmes are making a splash in the fashion scene. Well, sort of…

Recently, one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere (I mean who doesn’t love a blogger who literally goes around town dressing up and taking photos of herself in cute outfits?) posted on her experimental “Mermaid Nails”. Now, I’m not one for funky nail polish hues, but I have to say, this oh-so-eye-catching nail art immediately captured my attention. The best part? It’s super easy to do on yourself.

If you want to transform your digits into a summery, mermaid-esque design WITHOUT scaring away the man in your life (we all know how much guys love our funky fashion choices…or not…), this might be your “happy medium” between fashion forward and fashion faux pas. Speaking of which, I wonder whatever happened with those turquoise snakeskin pumps I used to own? Hmm…

Here’s how to add an instant dose of glam to your summer style…

• Choose a fun, turquoise nail polish color. Cupcakes and Cashmere recommends Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.
• Purchase a small container of turquoise glitter from a craft store. A little goes a long way!
• Paint two coats of the nail color on your nails.
• Add your favorite topcoat to just the bottom half of your nails.
• Dip a separate brush into the top coat and then into the glitter.
• Apply glitter to the bottom half of your nails.

Not into turquoise hues? Try a bright coral color mixed with gold glitter or a sexy gray hue with silver glitter.

Nail Color Trend Du Jour, Courtesy of Your Friends at Chanel

It’s official: Chanel is THE tastemaker when it comes to nail polish trends. To kickoff the upcoming Fashion’s Night Out (September 10 in NYC…so close, yet so far) the fashion/cosmetics giant is inspiring style mavens to paint the town red by painting their mitts and tootsies with a trio of khaki-hued shades: Khaki Rose, Khaki Vert and Khaki Brun. In keeping with this fall’s camo-chic trend, these earthy shades are both innovative and flattering for all skin tones.

Need I remind you of the mass hysteria that went down at last year’s FNO? Shortly after its debut, Chanel Nail Vernis in Jade became the must-wear nail color of fall 2009, flying off shelves in Chanel boutiques nationwide. If you even have a prayer of getting your hands on one of this season’s sure-to-be staples, make sure to get your ass to a Chanel counter lickety split on September 10. You know I’ll be there!
