So unless you’re living under a rock, you know that grilled cheese sandwiches are huge right now. They’re not just on the kids menu anymore, but instead becoming a gourmet staple on menus across the country. What I didn’t foresee coming though…grilled cheese-flavored vodka.
Time.com reported on the inventive infusion developed by New York and Seattle based restaurant Beecher’s Handmade Cheese. Apparently the process involves pouring 10 bottles of vodka along with 6 grilled cheese sandwiches into a plastic container. This concoction sits overnight and steeps, infusing the grilled cheese flavor into the vodka. It is then served with some basil garnish, vine-ripened tomatoes, and a splash of tomato juice.
For some reason I’m not totally grossed out; this meal in a glass sounds to be the ultimate comfort drink. I’m always up for a grilled cheese sandwich so naturally I’m curious to see what the buzz is all about. If you’re curious, too, head to Beecher’s and ask the bartender to try the martini. A head’s up that it’s not on the menu—customers need to be in the know in order to try it. One thing is for certain—if I do get around to trying the drink, I’d like to stay in the dark about the calorie count…

I live in Lakewood, Ohio, home to Melt, the original “hipster, girlled cheese bar/grill”. I think they should serve this there as well
Definitely worth trying!
Glad to hear you’re excited about trying the grilled cheese martini! I’d love to hear what you think if you get a chance to try it (or anything else at Beecher’s, for that matter).
Have you tried other “food-based” cocktails?

Glad you came across the post Kurt! A few other mm/c staffers have written about food-based cocktails…here are two I found in the archives. Milk & cheeseburgers…maybe not so much. But I agree with Karen that grilled cheese sounds somewhat intriguing…can’t wait to get in and try yours!
