Drop It Like It’s Hot

While I lack the funds and attention span to follow any of the fashion trends that closely, I do, from time to time, like to keep myself abreast of what the beautiful people are wearing.

This week, fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily tells me that skinny jeans are out and loose-fitting, drop-crotch pants are in. Sure, this baggy look works for the girls in Paris who live and die by what’s in the window of the shop Colette, but what about on the streets of Boston? Short of conducting my own research a la The DVF Experiment, I have the peculiar feeling that the effortless panache of these pants would be somehow lost in translation stateside. What comes across as cutting-edge in Paris may end up looking like a pair of ill-fitting pants with a soggy crotch in Boston. I can almost hear the “Is that girl wearing a diaper?” comments now.

Regardless, I’ve tried on a few pairs of these pants in the last couple of months and I have to say, they’re pretty freaking cute. Comfortable, yet stylish; non-binding, yet figure-flattering.

The question remains: Will I bite the bullet, buy the pants and have the confidence to leave my house wearing them? We shall see…

  1. DO IT! get in the pants!

  2. I seriously think they look awesome on other people, but on me? they just don’t look right! They make my stomach and butt look huge, which I don’t really like, haha!

  3. These pants are not figure-flattering. They were a huge trend when I was in Spain this spring, and I knew they’d be making their way here.

The pants aren’t something everyone can pull off. They are über-stylish, but with that extra fabric and those pleats, they don’t do any bodies any favors. The result is you look like you have big hips and a giant, saggy butt. Yet, wearing them will make you fashionable.

  4. I caved and got two pairs while in Berlin last month. So cute and comfy but I don’t have the guts to wear them to the office.
